God desires that people show mercy, for he is merciful.

when a person gives in to sin, the next sin is easier to justify. Even, failure to show compassion can lessen the value people see in others, which can make it easier to justify their mistreatment.
Why the failure to show mercy lead to the purposeful mistreatment of others?

This is the golden rule, a person who has done wrong to others the are receiving God's judgment based on their own actions and attitudes. They will be treated as they treated others. Nothing escapes God's righteous judgment.
How are sins against other people linked to coveting?
Coveting has almost become an accepted sin in some areas.Society has change it definition of what is acceptable, God does not what he call sin from the beginning, He still calls sin.
If God delight in showing mercy, why does he send judgement?
God delight in show mercy because he has the desire to forgive. No matter how great your sins may be, God can restore you. God's anger is not a strong as his desire to show mercy to those who repent. When you repent, God removes your sins far from you, never to remember them again.
The reason he send judgement is to open your heart So you can recognized your sin and repent and God could work in life.
